The Caribbean Centre of Excellence for E-Governance is designed to increase knowledge and build capacity in the Caribbean in the use of ICT in governance and government.

The goals of the Caribbean Centre of Excellence for E-Governance are to:

  • Promote e-governance and in particular e-local governance in the Caribbean region
  • Empower Caribbean Citizens through training and research, highlighting the role of local governance in the development of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME)
  • Harmonize the thrust towards local governance in the Caribbean
  • Reinforce purpose driven and sustainable research and training in the field of local governance in the Caribbean
  • Strengthen the democratic process of countries of the Caribbean through public participation and consultation;
  • Reinforce and harmonize the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organization (CBOs) and Faith-based Organizations (FBOs) and other organizations in direct contact with the people, to play their role as a mechanism for chnage in the governance process.

The Objective of the Caribbean Centre of Excellence for E-Governance is:

To provide leadership and excellence in e-governance by promoting targeted action oriented research, enhancing regional capacity through relevant training and institutional strengthening, recognizing and supporting on the ground implementation of innovative approaches, and encouraging collaborative approaches to common issues.

The Caribbean Centre of Excellence for E-Governance (CCEEG) is a joint initiative by Caribbean Center for Development Administration (CARICAD), the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and The University of the West Indies (UWI) through its Open Campus (UWIOC).
