The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Network “Regional Dialogue on the Information Society” (DIRSI) joined efforts in the production of this book which includes chapters by experts and researchers on information and communications technologies (ICT), particularly broadband Internet.
Based on a holistic approach to the broadband system, the authors analyze broadband expansion in the Latin American and the Caribbean countries, compare their situation to world trends and present policy recommendations in order to fast-track broadband expansion and adoption in the region, fulfilling its potential as a development tool.

EU creates new Caribbean and Pacific Investment Facilities to support key investment in infrastructure

Brussels, 30/04/2012– Today, the EU has decided, in cooperation with partner countries
of the Caribbean and Pacific regions, to launch the Caribbean Investment Facility (CIF)
and the Investment Facility for the Pacific (IFP) region. Both facilities respond to the need
to invest in key infrastructure, to make the regions competitive in global markets and
boost potential for economic growth and reducing poverty. The IFP also more specifically
responds to the challenges countries in the Pacific region face in financing climate
change sensitive and "green" investments.
